Trans Choices

to put an allison in it needs a standalone controller that is $1500 and an adapter plate for the motor. if you google it there is a company that sells the kit to swap one in but i don't remember who it was. with the price of the kit, trans etc. it turned out that a stock allison swap was more expensive than a built dodge unit! not worth it unless you have a lot of money burning a hole in your pocket

When I talked to the lady that ownes suncoast she said that there was more people converting to a 47re/48re transmissions with high hp engines no matter what the make.
The thing I personally like about the allison is that there is a 5 or 6th gear, but the cost would have to be taken to the bank.

We had the same problem a few years back when we killed a stock tranny. We talked to some local shops and ended up going with a guy up by Spillville IA, sorry dont remember the name.
Anyway, we learned a few things, the dodge torque converter is just plain trash, hot tranny fluid will kill the best transmission, and it doesnt take a pile of money to turn a 47re into VERY strong transmission, a quality torque converter is expencive.
I think we paid around $3600 for a warrantied build and a triple disk TC, worth every penny.
From what I've heard the Allison is really weak when over 450-500hp.
