Dual Disk clutch

yeah, I know...sorry about that, didn't mean to hijack the thread! Back on topic though, I've ridden in some of my buddies trucks running SB 3850's, and it was LOUD! Sounded like the whole thing was going to rattle apart when they shifted. I've got my SB 3600, and it's pretty quiet, not a whole lot of noise, and another of my buddy's has a Macleod DD, and it's probably the quietest DD I've ever heard (or not heard!). I'm sure some of it has to do with the slipper disc, and I'd be willing to bet some of it is probably dependent on the difference between the 6 button and 12 button discs...my guess is the 12 buttons tend to run quieter, being that they're more used in street applications, while the 6 buttons are more used in high performance applications, so they're going to be grabbier, harsher, and I would guess louder too... But, that's just my theory, with little to no actual experience or true knowledge to back it up...

I went through the same thing I bought a truck with a couple year old dual disk south bend. The guy told me it was normal but I couldn't take it I almost pulled it out to check it because it sounds bad. Called southbend and after chatting with them awhile was informed the older ones commonly sound this way. The newer ones have rubber "snubbers" and shouldn't sound this way if it is a newer one from southbend might want to call them. The nice guys there even told me since I called them and had all these questions if it was a clutch problem and it went out because of the noise they would give me a new one. He gave me all his info but I haven't had issues and it's been a year or so.
Can't tell you how many people stop me and tell me my throw out is going out. I just say thanks it's the expensive clutch and they look at me like I'm special.

I dont know how to identify a dual dick, other than having them drop trou....! But there is a quick easy way, if youve got an nv4500, to identify a dual disc or not. I dont think this will work on the nv5600 (6spd), but on the nv4500, theres a spacer that goes between the starter and the bellhousing, when you put a dual disc in. If theres no spacer, youre running a single disc. I want to say the spacer is around an inch thick?
