Had to remove the pivot / cross-shaft last weekend to fix a worn out clutch rod pin on the clutch pedal. Almost worn through. Carefully welded it up and filed it back as round as I could. That was the easy part...

Trying to get the cross-shaft back in place with the bevel washer and the 6 white plastic bushings was a challenge. Tried for an hour to push the shaft back in place while juggling the clutch pedal in the left hand and the cross-shaft in the right hand to no avail.

Wound up tearing the white bushings, then nothing would begin to install. Ordered 8 new ones, they come in packs of 4, at $4 each. But was glad to get them. While waiting overnight for them to come in, it occurred to me that my brake master cylinder rod was still connected to the brake pedal. I never disconnected it, as I was not working on the brake master cylinder, I was working on the clutch side of the unit. Never-the-less, that was the problem.

The "push-off" pressure of the master cylinder was preventing me from easily aligning the two up to push the cross-shaft through.

Lesson learned: Disconnect both clutch rod and brake master cylinder rod when re-installing the cross-shaft. Also, the bevel washer turned up in an internet search as a Tech Service Bulletin issue with a noisy brake pedal. The bevel washer goes on the right hand side bushing in the brake pedal. It installs between the bushing and the brake pedal bore / right had side of the brake pedal.
