advice on clutch setup
I just bought a nv4500 conversion for my 01. It had a southbend clutch setup that came with it and the upgraded input shaft... the only kicker is the clutch Is a dual disk 36005 competition setup... will this be fairly streetable? I have nowhere near that kind of hp but I have hardly any money in the clutch and hate to not use it.. opinions please
You will hate that clutch as it will not slip on normal takeoff and will chatter like a SOB if you try. If you have the SBC flywheel with it, call south bend and ask if pressure plate is same as their single disk OFE kit & if so, just order correct OFE disc only. Very smooth and actually streetable. Is trans used or new? If used, check input shaft for play up & down for looseness and if it hits t/o bearing sleeve, he probably rattled the bearings out of it.
Check their website for price on that kit and general rule on used GOOD parts is 60% of new. Keep the flywheel but check that input shaft for play as it will haunt you later. It shouldn't move more than 1/8". If that kit comes with flywheel, subtract 200$ from new price and sell for 60% of that. Did you get the SBC hydraulics with trans?
They will never last with that pressure plate. I'm fairly certain the pressure plate with the DD kit is different as well. The upgraded input shaft I believe is a 1-3/8" shaft while stock 5 spd is 1-1/4". If you can sell that clutch kit for a grand, I can sell you the single disc OFE kit with flywheel and HD hydros for 1150.
