I got a ??? for dubdoc and GTIHD. I just got my 78 back together, headgasket blew and here is whats going on. It will start, idle kinda low and then die. It always starts right back up. It smokes pretty good too, kinda a gray. Any thoughts???

my 92 1.6 NA was doin the same thing, only mine would keep running at a idle, wouldnt rev up ... it was my injection pump, it would only pull enough fuel to idle but when u revved it ,it would stall


and dubdoc, u know me from CO ,, im in sussex nb

Thanks!

I got it figured out this past weekend. I had the Ip timing off 180 deg. The timing marks on these 1.5 really suck! I had to pull the pump gear to get it lined up. Runs great! I just got to get a dial indicator and fine tune the Ip timing now.

As for the problem noted, WOW. The marks must be bad on a 1.5. Glad you got it sorted out.

I have no way of getting the codes----the way I have been told is cycle the key 3 times and count the flashes.If you have a back yard way let me know so I can throw the codes on the forum

im looking at buying a 83 rabbit pickup with 91k on it, let me know the good bad and ugly of these things, it seems pretty decent for $500

That works on our truck but not the V-dubs. Go to autozone or a chiefs and they will scan them for free then report back to us.
