It is a short bed....and i doubt i will ever haul anything REALLY heavy but it will be nice to have if i ever need it...thats why i want it to work properly

the old saying "Its better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it!!"

Before you try yanking on the ball you need to get the handle lose. I would put slight tension on it and then beat it out with a punch from the other side. Although maybe the po screwed the whole functionality of the system up when they flipped the system

Well i hope he didnt but its just my luck that something like that would happen....i think im more worried that i cant get the pin out mor so then getting the ball out......if the pin doesn indeed come out do you have to pull the ball up threw the bed or can you drive it down toward the ground? ?

You pull it up through the bed. The bad part is you can't cut the pin because that's basically what holds the ball in

probably not what you want to hear, but you might have to pull the bed off. So you can access the whole hitch to get a better shot at the pin. If you know anyone with a air hammer you might try that. Good luck.

If you havent got it out, dont try to heat it up or beat on it,,,,,Just pull the entire hitch off the truck. These are expensive hitches. It will be alot easier to get the mechanism working and the ball out if its laying on the workbench ...IMHO

i could do this but my lack of tools like a big vise to hold on to it would probly hinder my abilitys to extract the ball once it was off the truck..unless you have a different idea....if so im all ears!!!

It is right behind the axle.....i thought that was kind of strange myself as i thought you would want to put the weight right above the axle.....i have no idea why its like that
With the handle on the wrong side, and the ball behind the axle, I can bet you i know what happened. Buddy put it in properly, in front of the axle and handle on the drivers side. Then he went to hook up, and the trailer is too close to his bumper. So instead of spending the money and putting the proper adapter on the trailer, he gives the hitch a 180. He most likely complained how poor the trailer pulls as well, not knowing it's due to the ball being behind the axle.
Punch, BFH, drive the pin out, then pound the ball up.

If and when you resort to heat, run the torch around the outside of the ball. That way, the receiver swells first, and not the ball itself. Be like sweating a gear off a shaft. You can cover the outside of where your heating with a damp rag, it'll keep from burning the paint on the bed. No longer than a minute, otherwise the ball starts to be the same temp, and you'll have to start over.
