Project Rusty Revival (56k no way!)

Okay, back to progress pics! I want to see this thing in the December TOTM!

And I don't really have progress pics... it's just bondo! The next weekend I am off work I have to present some Alzheimer's research I have done (it's a pretty big deal) so I don't know how the progress will be going. I might plan to head back one afternoon to get the primer sprayed, but we'll see.
Well guys, sorry for the lack of updates, but things are still moving EXTREMELY slowly (but they ARE moving). Life has got in the way once again and progress has been hindered. Lately I have had many interesting things going on in life and I have to tend to them rather than Rusty. I have gotten the opportunity to present some nursing research on Alzheimer's and dementia which is strategically a fantastic move for my career. Also, I get to go to Japan and present my research come May (the day after I graduate), this is SUCH an exciting, huge step in my life.
As for the progress of the truck... I am finishing the sandblasting today. I have this weekend off and will be back here Saturday to hopefully seal all the seams on the bed and possibly get the wood mocked up and all the holes drilled. The next step to that will be to prime it and paint the underside black, then block the sides and ship it off to the paint shop. Unfortunately, we need to rebuild the entire front end, which will not be too much work, just expensive.
I wish I had more time to work on her, but she'll be out eventually. The goal is to take her on the first drive on Christmas break... this also means no December TOTM for me
I feel like this is the story of this truck (in smilies):

:c :
Had a VERY productive day today, I feel. Started out a little later than I had intended, but sleeping in was nice. We worked on getting the fenders welded on the bed.
First we had to rig the bed to the rafters to get it off the saw horses. Had a bit of a mishap where my hand didn't grab the right rope on the block and tackle and the bed hit the ground. Didn't do much damage, luckily no one's toes were in the way. I cracked a couple of the welds on the headache rack from releasing the tension we put into it, but I don't think it is severe enough to reweld, so we bondo'd over that. After we got that back off the floor and on the truck, we got to work!
We got the fenders tacked in place here:

I just have to have the bed back off the truck again to finish the welds, but we got them pretty close to welded on.
Here is a side view with dad messing on the turbo trying to get the VGT to work... can't get it to move, so I think the turbo is carbon'd up and stuck, so I need to pull it and clean it up, but that can wait for another time...

Also, I learned why I don't like welding without my work boots... small full thickness burns to two of my toes from some spatter that rolled down the fender and burnt through my shoe and sock. Hurts like a B****!

Well, quick update... bed is coming along, slow but sure (seems to be the theme here). Dad should finish the paint and primer tomorrow if the weather straightens out. Then the next step is to make a template for the wood, drill the holes, and send the bed out to paint. Gotta finish up some wiring in the cab and I'll be all set.
No, I haven't. I think that's something I will get to over Christmas break, along with possibly a valve spring and fuel gov spring swap. All this truck has done since i put the turbo on is sit and idle, so I am certain the turbine housing is full of soot. I will most likely pull the turbo off. I am thinking about plumbing in a drive pressure line for my actuator too, so I can choose to run it off drive pressure, boost, or a combination of the 2. I also have a pair of map sensors and a data logger that I want to hook up to the drive pressure and boost pressure, it would make it much easier to tune the turbo actuation with (and would be really cool to play with). Plus, whithout the bed on the truck, I am really trying not to move it much to prevent the tires from throwing rocks at the back of the cab... I will get it to work though... sooner or later.
Ok, pretty good day today... Started out with painting the inside of the bed in a one stage black paint. It turned out surprisingly well for a couple rednecks that hardly have any clue how to run a paint gun!

From there, dad worked on the speaker box design for the rear speakers and I worked on getting the speakers wired in. I need to rewire the front speakers, because I changed which way the amp was going to face, so the wires are short. No big deal though. Here is half of the speaker box design:

From there, we decided it would be a good time to put the bed back on the truck for the last time (WOO!). I must say I am REALLY pleased with how it turned out:

I am getting some flack on facebook for the fenders, but I really like them. The intent of the truck is mainly for towing and just regular driving. I doubt I will ever actually do any serious offroading with it, so I don't see the fenders being in the way. This critic stated he could see the fenders getting snow packed, but I think the tires will prevent that...
I also took it up the alley for the maiden rolling of the coal... She rolled coal (which also got some critics on facebook), that's for sure. Got her up to 30 lbs of boost, which is about half of where I would like to be, the pump has been untouched except for the addition of the fuel pin, and the VGT doesn't work... I think it will clean up a fair amount when I get the VGT working, plus I still need to put in the 3800 rpm spring and tune the pump. I also am not an idiot and will know when and when not to roll coal... Anyway, enjoy the video!
