05 is LLY, and you're kidding yourself if you don't think you have anything to worry about with an LLY. Just google LLY overheating problems.

Yes they do. The shop's "super duty" is constantly telling me to"continue driving, cleaning exhaust filter", generally as I'm pulling back into the shop after a service call. Seriously, I got other stuff to work on, I can't be joyriding around just because some underdeveloped technology hasn't completed it's function. Probably cause problems down the road. Oh well, it's a company vehicle.

Exactly........... as you can tell everyone has an opinion on here and they are not afraid to share it. We are all "stuck" with what we have and there is no CLEAR CUT choice in the diesel world. Good luck man.

So, of the 2 Duramax Duallys, I am looking at..

1. 2004 LT 3500 4x4 Dually Duramax with 140,000 for $18,000

2. 2005 LT 3500 4x4 Dually Duramax with 110,000 for $17,000

I know the 04's have injector problems, and the 05's have the overheating issues due to the intake..

I've been reading up a lot to gain some knowledge..

Which one would be the better truck..

Thanks for all of the replies..

Chris..

If you could, I would try to go 06 and up on the Dmax's. From then, they were basically trouble free, they didn't have any major issues like the LB7's and LLY's. I don't have a lot of knowledge on the overheating issue, but the injectors can become an expensive issue.

And no problem

I agree and was told that exact same thing by an independent diesel mechanic who works on all 3.

Yep, go LBZ if you want a D-max, the injector and overheating issues were fixed, and they were still before DPF's.
