Buying a Used 2006 Powerstroke 6.0
Thinking about buying a 6.0 2006 Powerstroke Dually Crew Cab.. It has 100,000 miles on it..
Want it for towing 44' 5th wheel race car trailer. Fairly heavy. When do the EGR, head gasket problems start? Or did they fix these issues by 06.. Thanks, Chris.. |
They run through all of them, from 03-07. Each set had their own problems. If you do get it, for sure do an EGR delete and change the oil cooler while your in there. For peace of mind, I would do head studs as well, that a good sized trailer to be hauling.
I'm a Ford guy, don't get me wrong, but why not a Dmax or Cummins? The problems with the 6.0's can be fixed, you just have to spend a little money up front. |
Make sure to get an Oasis report to see what kind of past problems it has had at the dealership.

^^ agreed Just to many problems with the 6.0 in my eyes to ever be considered reliable for towing especially a heavy load. For a 44 5th wheel you need a cummins with a manual or a Duramax with 4.10's |
-get an oasis (make sure there hasnt been to much replaced on it)
-check and see if its had HG's replaced with ARP's -buy an EGR delete if it doesnt already have one -buy an edge insight cs or cts or old style to monitor everything while you are towing EGR/Oil Cooler cause HG problems, its not always a problem of when it happens just depends on how it was treated/taken care of. With the edge you would be able to check and make sure it is 100% before you buy it. You wouldnt be the only one to tow heavy with a 6.0, their transmissions are very stout and they have more room in the cab and ride very nice for being straight axle up front |
Put in a fuel pressure gauge, if you start to loose fuel pressure you will fry your injectors (very common)
