New To me Powerstroke
Hello everyone im going saturday to pick up my first vehicle ive been handy all my life and found a good deal on a 1996 Ford Powerstroke 7.3l auto extended cab its currently not running, previois owner said that he bought it off a guy who ran it out of fuel and it hasnt been touched since the truck has been sitting for 7 months is there anything i should look for when i bring it home to get it running?
I plan on
New batteries
New belts
New starter
Filters/oil
New alternator
Here is a pic of the truck as it sits
Im on a low budget around 2000 to get it running im 16 and this will be my first vehicle so any help would be appeciated my dad has a 99.5 7.3 f250 so ive worked on that
But does anykne have any advice on getting this thing going?
Will a gas standard gas job scanner work on a diesel truck?
Thanks so much guys

i like the hood
not a powerstroke expert someone probably has a better answer then this but if it was me
i would first just try putting fuel in the tank and crank the engine for a bit see if it does anything if you get nothing then there may be air in the lines i would hook up a battery charger because it may take a lot of cranking
You need to crack the fuel lines on the heads where the lines exit the filter and enter the head. Then crank for a bit to purge any air in the lines.
make sure the lines get filled and if it starts let it run for 10 seconds then tightin the lines up
if there is no fuel then good chances the fuel pump is bad
just like a lot of vehicles running out of fuel is hard on the fuel pump
hope this helps
