sad you feel that way... put an edge juice with att. run on stage 3 or 4 and go EASY on it, been said you can get up to 25 mpg but will lift head bolt in the future.

What's the budget? Is the truck stock? Is he willing to run a tuner? Can he do the work himself? Does he tow regularly?

The Motorcraft Cetane Booster added about 2mpg for me and it's CHEAP. About $8 treats 100 gallons. Why does he want the stock muffler? If he's worried about noise tell him to get on youtube. You can hear damn near any exhaust on a 6.0. This way he can find one thats not too loud. As for me its 5" straight piped (loud and proud).

Get a custom tuned SCT, modify the EGR up-pipe, swap the rear diff cover to the '08 style, get a friend that drives a PSD.

our 05 6.0 gets around 12 unless it is 100% highway then it gets around 18. Has a edge juice. 50,000 miles next to no towing and never raced it is starting to puke coolent. Best advise I have is keep it stock or go all out starting with head studs.
