Default 1990 7.3 hard starting cold

I have a 1990 7.3 wait to start light comes on for about 2-3 seconds then goes out and the glow plug relay clicks a few times but it has to spin over a good many times before it cranks after first start up it will crank right up all 8 glow plugs checked fine with a test light any help i would be greatful

Sounds like a dead controller.

just looked at the ip on the bottom driver side the plunger(when you move the throttle it goes in and out) is wet its not dripping just wet all around it would that be any cause to hard starting (cold)??? starts fine after it has been run thanks...

A dead glow plug or two will make it short cycle too.

If the IP is losing prime, it will hard start.

Sorry, just saw that you checked the glowplugs So, yeah, controller is probably bad.

The dripping out of the plunger might be enough to cause it to lose prime over periods of time, but I'm not sure. Either way, a wet IP is usually not good...

controller fixed it put it on today... truck fired right up
