if you dont want to touch your tranny, i would suggest the hypertech. its the best deal...you can find used ones for 150-250 bucks. you can set it on the biggest setting and dont have to worry about anything. its only 95hp, but its worry free 95hp. the predator would be my next choice. she will smoke some for ya too, but that trans will talk back. unless you have a ton of time, or know someone that write tunes with efi live, i would look at that later down the road if you want to upgrade. you would also need a laptop on top of purchasing the software, unless you know a guy who knows a guy

FYI, after having both a Bullydog and PPE.. the PPE is much MUCH Better.. More power, smoother shifts, I can reset TAPS, which is very important when changing tunes. I can monitor my injectors, adjust the tune custom.. its the next best thing to EFI Live..

4 Power settings, I believe they are 60hp, 120 hp, 180 hp and 225 hp increases. Its ALOT of fun, much better programmer than Bullydog..

Default Totally New With Lots of Questions.

So I am about to sell my 07 Chevy 1500 and probably purchase a 2500. But I know next to nothing about diesels. The one i am looking at is a 2003 2500HD turbo diesel. It has about 155k miles on it. I have no clue if that is alot or if it's just getting broken in. I have read that it isn't odd for a diesel to run for half a million miles. but i dont want to trade my 07 with 26k miles for an 03 with 155k...
I will however be stepping up to power everything, 4x4, more power, and a crew cab.
I also have been looking for a programmer for the truck. I have looked at the ones mentioned on here and i like the insane amount of power the PPE puts out but i dont like that you can't change it unless you are at home. I looked at the Banks 6-gun but i want my black smoke... And i also looked into the EFI LIVE. but i dont think i wanna take the time to deal with it. i'm lookin to put out around $500 for a programmer. but i'd like to know that i will be able to get better gas mileage and not just crazy power all the time. And I dont want to mess up my tranny if i crank the power up all the way. So any ideas about something to deal with that? I looked into Banks Billet Torque Converter but if there is something cheaper and just as good or better let me know. I dont want this truck breakin down cuz i plan on putting some money into it as life goes on. and i dont want the money going into it because something is broke.

Sorry this is so long. but like the title says. I have alot of questions. Thanks

Uhh, I change my PPE Settings all the time and Im never at home.. It takes like 1 minute to change settings. So Im not sure what you mean here....

Lots of people can help you with EFI Live.. most of the time you can get a custom tune and just set it for what youre doing.

Just about any upgrade you do to your diesel will result in better fuel economy, and power.

You can tear up the stock trans with as little as a 60hp tune.. You have to pay to Play so to speak. There are shift kits available to help your trans hold extra power without dropping the big $ on a full trans.

I looked into Banks Billet Torque Converter but if there is something cheaper and just as good or better let me know.

The Stocker is probably better than the Banks Billet TC. You need to check out Suncoast Converters. They make excellent products for our Allisons.

hey thanks alot.
the thing about the PPE when i was reading i thought that you had to download a program onto it and you had to stick with that one untill you got on your computer and switched it again. so i think i might end up going with this one since it is not like i thought it was.

the truck itself had one owner and was for a business so i dont think they previous owner was raisin cain in it. oh and do you have a guestimate of the gas mileage it gets stock? just wonderin, it's no biggie.

and wow just 60hp.... hmmm but you're right. gotta pay to play. which is fine with me now that i have an idea of what i need to pay for.
once again thanks for the help. i'll make sure to go post somethin and what not. but right now i gotta head out the door and get some work done.

No man, the PPE is a handheld programmer .. the one you are describing is EFI Live.. You need a Laptop to edit the tunes. But, they have switches available for the LB7 ECM that allows you some adjust on the fly availability.

This is what the PPE tuner looks like.. plugs right in your OBD II Port.

some trucks have injector problems, some never had any.

there is a warranty on the injectors that lasts 7 years/ 200k miles

im at 133k on mine i had injectors replaced once at 115k and that was the only time it was changed.

its not your fault if they go bad, happens
