If your house is the low ground, your well is in the basement, you have a septic. Which way does water flow even when it's underground.

Pulling potable water from an open water source like a creek is not a safe option. The safety margins of this water could change constantly depending on what's goin on upstream, runoff water, sunlight and water temps. Most all of this is a controlled environment when your using an underground source. Although this is done in some cases from large lakes at least with them you have a safety buffer just in the shear bulk of the amount of water and even then these lakes are tested frequently for safety.

I hate to sound like I'm tryin to rain on your parade here but think about it. That creek is gettin low on water and not movin much and that herd of critters comes down to the waterin hole to get a drink. This also means them sheddin themselves of already used water so to speak, to make room for the new incoming water. Guess what your pump is suckin up and sendin through your kitchen sink. In the summer time when the water is low it tends to heat up and stagnate, when this happens bacterial growth goes wild in it. Around here Strepto-somethin and E-Coli are the big ones that people get from swimmin in infected ponds and lakes during the summer months. If it can infect a large pond or lake with high enough levels to make people sick, just think of the levels in your creek that tends to dry up.

Hopefully, the "well" doesn't draw directly from the creek... but the creek water seeps deep into the ground and being naturally filtered through the rocks in the earth to be pumped by the well. (Which is the way wells work.)

As for the location of the septic... as long as the septic tank and lateral lines are a certain distance from the well there should be no problem.

It depends on the types of soils and type of septic system, but around here, it can be as close as 100 feet between the septic and well head and be considered safe.

Here is a reference to some information that might be helpful to you in understanding how the well and septic work.
