Which tuner to get?
#21
Id be leary of free stuff when it comes to tunes... sticker, t-shirts, and shipping are good to go. But when it comes to performance stuff and your motor is depending on it, I wouldnt go the free route. Ive read several SCT threads and talked to several guys on this topic and they all reccomend Innovative diesel and gogo diesel when it comes to tunes.

I wouldn't be buying from any of them, only because no one uses their tuning. Stick to the good names:
Eric @ Innovative
Matt @ Gearhead
Doug @ GoGo
There are others, but these are some of the top ones.
Saving $50 buying the programmer doesn't help you much if you have to go out and buy new tunes anyways...
MKM is a known name... for EGR deletes, not for tuning.
As for mileage, extreme race with the converter lock up offered the best mileage.
Just for comparison, when I first got my tunes, I loaded my economy tune up and drove like an old lady for an entire tank of fuel. I tried to keep RPM's below 2000, and tried to keep boost under 10psi the whole time (this was TOUGH), I avg'd 15.1mpg. I said, this next tank, I DGAF. Loaded extreme street up (race would offer better mileage due to the early converter lockup), and proceeded to drive like a 16 yr old running late for the prom, everywhere. I avg'd 15.3 that tank, driving like an idiot on my hottest tune at the time... I then deleted economy off of my programmer forever. I have since given up even trying to record mileage, because frankly I don't care. Those mileage readings were with a 100% bone stock truck, other than tuning. Stock intake, stock exhaust with cat and muffler IN place. It was also mixed driving, unloaded.

Either email Eric or call and ask for him. I have dealt with him via email so far and he has been great with answering all my questions in a timely manner.

Thanks for the info bro, I will not be wasting my time with the Eco tune then.

x3 only holds 3 custom tunes, SF3 holds 3 custom and 3 "canned"... but for us it really doesn't matter because the whole idea of going SCT is to use the custom features, so really the canned aren't needed. Maybe it'd be easier to resell it with the canned!? I don't know it was never a concern of mine, I have an older X2 myself, never really saw the need to hold canned tunes, but it's more of a personal thing... I would have got an SF3 if the opportunity came up!? Either one, doesn't matter, they hold the same custom stuff.
