You wont find any love for Banks around here... overpriced, underpowered, and doesn't do a damn thing for your transmission, at least not in a good way.

The IQ is a whole separate issue. Having a good technology background, the IQ was 10 years out of date when it was released. You can do more with a smartphone, including monitoring all of your trucks OBD functions... Just need a $5 app, and a $100 blue tooth OBD reader, good to go.

Again, this all just my opinion.

I know everyone is an sct fan, but I had an edge evilution given to me. Im running the +40hp right now. My brother in law set up the transmission to shift at 2-3mph's sooner at each gear, and set it to build 10% more psi before it shifts. He says it helpsany slippage the trans may have with the higher HP. Does this sound correct for any of the power levels? Not doing any towing or racing. If this isnt correct, where should the settings be at? I know most people will say use the edge as a monitor and get sct tune, which may happen, but for my knowledge any feedback would be great. Thanks fellas

Edge transmission settings are a F'IN JOKE! Wanna see the $2300 transmission bill I have for a rebuilt TorqShift? That I got to stuff in! When it starts slam shifting into 5th and hunting for 6th, you'll know where I am coming from. That was with the coveted Edge Juice, with Attitude PLATINUM! That name sounds so stupid. Anyway, I played with all of the trans setting and saw NO CHANGES!

Want to see transmission setting changes? Hook up an SCT and add just 10% shift pressure, those are transmission changes that you WILL FEEL.

Like my status says: I hate Edge so much, I quit using Edge shaving gel!

It raises line pressure a little yeah, but doesn't actually do anything for the way it shifts. The SCT has the capability to access the TCM and change hundreds of things. Something a custom tuner would have to explain to you, because it's over my head. We can change things like when the torque converter locks up, we even have tunes that lock it as soon as it bangs 2nd gear and keeps it locked. There's quite a bit they can do.

The 5R is a different beast than the 4R, the 5R uses electrically activated hydraulic solenoids to make shifts. So there is a lot to be gained by tuning it correctly.

Running a 40hp tune probably wont do any severe damage right away. Just be conscious of your driving habits. If you're beating on it all the time, it's not going to hold.

HAHAHAHAHA

Karl is right about the shift firmness with the SCT, it's amazing how much a little bit changes. I actually soften it up on some tunes. What we really want is quick smooth shifts.

So should I put my shift points, and psi back to stock? Also, is it possible to use my edge evo as a monitor while having act tunes plugged in? Or do i need to get an insight?

It's no secret I am an Edge hater. Heck, it's been hinted that I am the Edge ****. However, while I personally don't agree with any Edge unit that has power settings SOLELY as a gauge indicator (because they DO go through the ECU), other Bombers have stated that feedback from SCT program writers is that it is OK.

I also agree with Mdub that 40hp isn't going to kill your trans/truck. But it could lead to a false sense of security, now you're pounding the pavement with a Hot Unlock Code, things are peachy until "That day".

For an experiment, put your shift points back to stock. I'd be willing to be a or two that you won't feel any changes even with your foot in it.
