is 6.0l a good way to go?
The only 5.9 getting dropped in my frame rails is a DT360... makes the cummins look like a kids toy.

Really I like the 6.0 PSD. My dad had one and sold it with 210k miles. It worked hard too pulling skidsteers everyday and traveling across Texas once or twice a week. The 5R110 trannys are awesome! I'd pit it up against an Allison any day to tell you the truth and I'm a GM guy. If you get a 6.0 then get all the deletes and head studs. You should be good. Also the newer the better. 03 will probably have the most lemons. Emissions were its downfall. The engines had to run hotter to burn cleaner causing blown head gaskets.

There's a guy local to me with one in his CC/LB dually F350 something like a 2001ish. Pretty slick setup. Carson Stauffer now has all of the adpater plates and such to bolt it up too. He did a really good write up on PSN about it.
Hypermax says the stock headgaskets/bolts are good to 300psi and the bottom end could hold 3000+hp.
If i were to build a 6.4 08-10 body and frame, scrap the engine and exhaust and radiator.
Throw in a detroit. if need be id chop the cowl off since they overhang too much as it is, and cut the fire wall out and re form it to fit an 8V92

my opinion..... if u work on ur own truck (which i do) the 6.0 is your truck. great looking and with a few grand you can have a good reliable truck. the truck is already depreciated in value because of there rep... which makes it an even better buy. once the 12v is in the build stage of being not so street friendly i will most likely be in the market for a 6.0l. i think the whole cab thing is what really gives them there horrible rep.. because some of the other popular diesels problems (starting no aguements) cost alot more to fix then the 6.0 COMMON problems.
Y .02 have two 7.3s and keeping maintnence up bypassed the 6.0 and 6.4 if you have the time to work on them then fine have at it and fix everything that the factory that is wrong but the way it should be is you buy a truck and not have to fix problems to get it back to square one

7.3<6.0<6.4<6.7 no questions about it man. Not knocking any of them, but if they didn't improve, they wouldn't have sold as many trucks as they have.
Does the 6.0 have some reliability issues compared to a 7.3? Of course it does. The 6.0 also makes more power and has a lot more emissions equipment. Did you know the 6.0 is 95% cleaner running than the previous 7.3 stock for stock? That's pretty impressive. A stock 7.3 is hard to beat in the reliability department but I know plenty of 7.3 owners who carry spare ICP's in the glove box man. They all have their faults. At least with a 6.0 you know what you're getting up front and how to fix it right away.
As for making power... 6.4 is king.

The more research I do the more I like the 6.0. But if you don't work on your truck than a diesel is not for you. Unless its under warrantee. By the time I can afford a 6.7 they will be out of warrantee. so I hope there not bad to work on.
