Does have to be vice grips, just anything to pinch off the hose going to the waste gate actuator. I threaded a set screw into my hose when I had the waste gate on mine. Used a couple zip ties, on on each size of the screw, to make sure it couldn't move around.

I was just sayin vice grips to test pluggin it off but my waste gate is plugged and the shaft is way shortened, the latter is when I noticed the biggest drop in egts

the ECM defuels +/-19psi stock. you'll need a programmer or box that "fools" it to get more.

you increased the pre-load on the gate. gates do not just "pop" open, they open slowly as the drive & boost increase. by shortening the rod, you increased the spring load on the puck and now it takes a little longer to move it. the only downside is IF you were over-boosting you also have less puck travel now, so the gate wont bypass as well.

If there was a better gain with a shorter rod over the plugged hose, your gate was open, or opening too soon.

yes I had my line plugged originally. What I would recommend is pulling the turbo off the truck undoing your shaft to the waste gate loosening the nut and screwing the end part down maybe 3/4 of an inch. You will have to pry back on the pin but it was worth it to me. That's what I meant by shortening the rod I just scewed it in. seems like way quicker spool time 2 more pounds of boost for me and lower egts.

I just finished putting a turnbuckle on mine. Went from 22 psi to 33 psi and EGT's seem to be much cooler
