Here is what i know about tapping the wire, more fuel to the injectors and no where to return the fuel to except your rotor head. Been down that road. If you have injectors that flow good then there should not be as much of an advirse re-action to having higher fuel pressure and fuel demand sent to the injectors. Its really on how your right foot operates. Dont pull out fast less of a hammer to the pump.

I'm the exception to this rule also. I don't run monster injectors by any means, just RV275's but nobody is easier on the pedal then I am. My truck isn't fast and I don't treat it like it is. I built it to be able to pull any trailer I may have a need to hook up to and to use as a farm truck. This truck has never really been hammered on at all and it still went through 3 pumps. I also varied the settings on the Comp all the way from 3-5 and off when I towed

In my world the Comp was there for the same reason as the towing ability, just to know it was there if I wanted it. I wish somebody could convince me that tapping the wire doesn't hurt cause I'm havin some serious withdrawals right now and havin to learn how to drive my truck all over again. It's just not the same but I can't afford to keep replacing the pumps. With this new pump that just went in this is over $5000 in VP44's through the years.

I do understand what your saying about with draws. Totaly different truck under trailer. But I dont have my wire tapped either. I am not saying that the wire does not help kill the pump because i do think that it sure dont help the life of the pump

There are 2 problems with the VP! 1st being the poor lift pump design that burns up the mechanical side of the pump. The 2nd is the poor electronics!

The Smarty isn't pushing the pump like the Comp or Quad boxes do but unless your truck is for nothin but pullin heavy your gonna want the Smarty stacked with somethin. It's strictly a low end power box for bringing the truck to peak torque quicker. Gives ya nothing in the top end, matter of fact you will actually lose a small amount hp overall according to the Dyno's.
