74RE Transmission Rebuild
#23
You pull it I will rebuild it!! Pulling it is the worst part!
Some Updates! - Important If You Ever Want To Install Red Clutches Or PowerPacks.
Front Clutches w/ Alto Red PowerPack (left my paperwork @ the shop so these words are out of my mouth, I'll try not to forget anything)....
Front Clutch;
Make sure you clean ALL parts with solvent. I washed everything off with water after and then wiped or dipped parts in ATF. I have a fear that residual solvent will break down ATF or maybe swell seals.

Front Clutch;
- Seperate the front clutch from the rear clutch and input shaft (pull it off)
- Remove the waved snap ring
- Remove reaction plate from the drum
- Pull all the clutches out of the drum (if your saving them keep them in exact order, if not = garbage)
- Use a press to compress the spring retaining ring (I dont have a press that big so i used 3 C clamps, be sure to protect the hub from damage)
- Remove the c-clip holding the retaining ring
- Remove the ring and the springs but keep them in order so they go back onto the same holder they came off of (these springs release the clutches by pushing the piston back)
- Pull the piston out with a twisting motion
- Replace seals, be sure to lube them with ATF so they are slippery
- Replace piston
- Put springs back in place
- Re install the retaining ring and press it down slowly (carful not to bind on c clip groove
- Install c clip and release springs, make sure retainer sits centered on the c clip
- If your installing a Alto Red Power Pack you will install 7 clutches in place of the 5. To do so you will use the NEW steel reaction plate that came with the kit... Its NOT on the drawing they have online BUT I called them and it DOES go with the power pack!
- Replace the wave c clip and check clearence

Thanks!
Ran into an epic failure last night... The rear ring gear (Annulus) in the trans is about one boosted launch from being stripped @ the inner splines where it connects to the intermediate shaft.
Got a whole new/used setup coming. 200$... Used rear annulus, planetary, sun gear, shell, new 5 pin front planet and new front annulus. Also comes with all bushings, snaps, and bearing!

Still waiting on parts for the gear train...
Also got my rear servo in... It came missing on of the teflon guide seals
I am supposed to be getting a new one shipped to me but we will see how soon... PATC said they would take care of it ASAP (bought from them). I also contacted Superior Trans the MFG of the servo. Their sales manager actually called me while he was sitting in the airport waiting on a plane! Customer service!!
They told me how to get around it if need be but i will wait to see if i get the one from PATC
