74RE Transmission Rebuild

74RE Transmission Rebuild
Not sure how interested everyone is BUT I am going to take some pictures and document my tranny rebuild.
I have never done one before but my buddies have and I am doing it at my best friends shop. I also have access to Mitchell Repair and All Data Repair so I have step by step on how to do it.
I dont have any pictures today but will get some tomorrow! The breakdown was VERY easy!
The demise of my tranny was evident after i got her apart. The input shaft splines got stripped to nothing. Not to mention the slipping and fried torque converter.
Steps Done Today
Thats where i left off... Wife made dinner so we had to get out of there or suffer the consequences!
I still have to pull the rear servo, break down OD unit, and break down clutch assemblies.
Not 100% sure with my rebuild YET, I have a few quotes in from people.
I am leaning toward PATC rebuild though. The #47 kit... It includes everything i need and more.
The kit comes with;
Alto Red Eagle master rebuild kit with a direct 5 clutch Power Pack and Kolene steels
Extreme duty brass impregnated carbon fiber flex band
Fairbanks TransAction kit
Billet triple clutch torque converter (billet piston and billet steel low stall stator)
Performance 3-4 accumulator spring
Heavy duty Sonnax low / reverse servo
Sonnax heavy duty / no leak intermediate servo cover
Mopar 5 to 1 ratio intermediate servo band lever
Full time torque converter fluid feed valve
Mega Spring for more holding power in 1st - 2nd and 3rd
Superior heavy duty intermediate band apply strut
Sonnax 1 piece billet input shaft
I MAY add a few more things depending on complete contents of the Alto kit and any suggestions people give me. Like billet accumulator, band anchor, and swapping out for full billet oversized servos.
I will keep you updated.

Yeah... Hell maybe I will open my own tranny shop. I could do this again for a couple hundred clams. Its not bad so far.
However parts depending on what i add will push me to 2,000$. I was going to try one of those Diamond T units but the triple disc is part of the package... I dont know though... I MAY still go with a different route depending on some things.
I heard the Suncoast rebuild kit comes with billet servos. However ill have to pay full retail price for a input shaft. So i dunno?

I checked out Suncoast, what I didn't like was their terribly vague description of their parts, no photos or info about any of their billet accessories included in the kits and confusing valve body info... All their 47re valve bodies have the same descriptions about being manual units. Even the NON manual one. I just like to know all about what I buy. The kit from PATC comes with a few more things then Suncoast and huge discount on 3x converter. It all evens out. Im impartial. LoL.
I also went with the TCS shaft instead of the Sonnax. They did torque testing on them both. The Sonnax twisted permanently at like 2500 ft/lbs or tq and the TCS took over 3000.

Ordered my parts... The wife was shockingly ok with me dropping two and a half clams on my trans.. She rocks
My parts list includes;
Alto master rebuild kit with all four sets of RedEagle clutches and all four sets of Kolene steels with a direct clutch PowerPack with 5 clutches
Rigid carbon fiber intermediate band
Transgo stage 2 Shift Kit
Sonnax Billet 16% oversize intermediate Super Servo
Sonnax 4 ring billet aluminum accumulator piston
Power Wedge unbreakable intermediate band anchor
TCS billet input shaft
Billet triple disc torque converter with billet piston and billet steel low stall stator.
New Raybestos rear band
Overdrive bushing kit
Thrust washer kit
Torrington bearing kit
Should make a decent trans.
