Default 1999 cummins making driving me nuts

So Im working on my friends truck, its a 1999 cummins with bigger turbo ,100 hp injectors, dragon flow pump, edge comp unlocked. It has a dead pedal sometimes, let off for a few seconds and then it comes back for a few. Checked codes with smarty and it had apps and the companion code I think it was p1693. So we tried adjusting the sensor no go, tried to recalibrate with key off push pedal ect.,swapped with his brothers 98 and still same. So we think we need new ecm, just wondered if anyone had any ideas. Having trouble finding another ecm. And to top it off I think we'll be changing a head gasket on it as well.

I doubt its your ECM, you would have some type of code. check you wiring and grounds. Have you tried un-installing the smarty and edge comp? sometimes when these boxes malfunction, itll do wierd stuff to the computer controls. Completely remove the harness and everything

Had the same problem and it was a ground on the passenger side battery that just barely wasn't connecting. Good Luck

Not sure on dead pedal BUT if he has all that gear on it and didn't stud the head.... Your probably very right on the head gasket replacement remark.

We did clear codes we also had a friend come over with code scanner to try that as well. I forgot to say the truck does have arp studs. Going to check all the grounds, connections and try again, will let you know what happens.

Tried again, checked all the grounds and connections runs fine till the check engine light comes on then drops to an idle. If you let off the throttle for say 10 seconds you can get back on it for around the same time. The codes that keep coming up are p0230 which I know is lift pump and this truck has fass fuel on it but the other 2 that are there are p0122 and p1693.Clear codes and it seems fine till light comes on again, runs longer when cold seems to lose it when it ges warmed up. Any other ideas would be great thanks, Brandon
