Default Changed Lift Pump, 2 days later, starts and idles way too high

So I put it in the shop, they told me the lift pump was bad and that I should drain my gas tank and clean. I have 200k miles and I replaced the pump myself. It's ran fine for two days and now it wouldn't start today and then finally it fired up but idled super high (2500) and I shut it off. Tried twice more and the same thing happened so I just parked it. Any ideas?

Also, It didn't have a problem until after it was warmed up. Which is what it was doing prior. From what I read it sounds like the injector pump but people are also saying get a better lift pump. Does that just prolong the injector pump or...? Filter is new too.

Fuel pressure is everything, although I've personally never heard of any pump related high idle issue. What lift did you use? You need a fuel pressure gauge, and if it was doing the high idle before-hand and they told you that was bad lift pump... well... and shame on them. You should definatly run atleast a 100gph pusher (not lift) pump, and check for codes using the key trick or a scanner and let us know what you get, because I have a feeling the idle may be an electrical issue.

Thanks guys!!! I will try it out. Heading over to check it out now. It didn't ever do the high idle. Just would not start occasionally when warm and would have to sit one to five minutes to get it to start. Just did it today. I never crank it over repeatedly. just a few turns and then I wait awhile. Not sure if that matters. The fuel pump I put in was from napa and the box said napa gold but I was told it was a Carter and its just a stock replacement which I now regret after reading around on this site. Also, I replaced a relay the guy at napa suggested. I will get a scanner tomorrow and run some codes. Any suggestions on what kind to buy?

Is the pusher pump in place of the lift pump or in addition to or....?

Pusher pump will replace the stock setup. I recommend looking into Raptor pumps, super easy to install and pure-flow is a solid company that stands by their stuff! I am curious to see what codes you get. You don't want to see 0216, 1688, or 1689 but 9 out of 10 times hard starts when warm is cracked diaphram in the vp44 injection pump

Well, gas pedal trick didn't work. What's the key trick for codes? If I put it in gear revved up that high its not gonna b good is it? I need to move it.

turn the key on without starting the engine, each time making sure the odometer lights up, but you have to do it 3 times within 5 seconds and the odometer will flash codes. be ready to write them down. And no, don't even try putting it in gear at 1700 rpm

Edit: turn key all the way off before turning it back to "on" each time, again, without starting the engine.

Your time is truly appreciated. I will let you know what I figure out. After the third time turning the key do I leave it on or off? I'm not getting codes either way.

leave it on so the odometer lights up the codes... you might be better off with a scanner. If you mess up the process just turn the key off and give it a few seconds. You have to do it fairly fast, smooth motions from off to on, holding it "on" for only a second. Literally.
