worth it?
i want a 4x4 i havent owned a vehicle that wasnt untill now. how hard is it to convert from 2wd to 4wd on a 93 ext cab long bed? if i can get the springs, axle ect... would it be cheaper trying to find a 4x4 or to convert?
Yeah sell the 2wd and buy a 4wd. The short list of parts needed....
Plus LOTS of misc parts....
If you got a donor 4wd truck for pretty much nothing and your 2wd is in AWESOME shape then I would think about it. Otherwise I would sell the 2wd and buy a nice 4wd.
- Axle
- Springs
- Steering
- Brake Lines
- Both Drive Shafts
- 4wd Transmission
- Transfer Case
- Transmission Cross Member
- TC Shifter
- 4wd Speedo Cable

i got my 4x4 1st gen for $1500 i havent had a prob. Then again its not so clean (body and interior wise) but i like it. Dad just bought his single cab short bed from Taos New Mexico and paid around 10 grand
What's the basis for doing the 4x4 swap? Is your current truck in excellent shape? If it is maybe consider swapping the body on a trashed 4x4. Either way, if you want to do a swap, I think your going to end up buying a 4x4 truck for the parts, buying them separately wouldn't be very cost effective. Not sure what your goal for use is, but a slammed 2wd drag truck would be pretty sick!
sorry i havent responded guys ive been gone dealing with a family death i just like having 4x4 ive never not had one untill now if i could find a trashed 4x4 i would swap the body mine is an old farm truck it aint pretty but she runs like a charm and just now rolled over 200000.
