question about automatics transmission
hello everybody, im just gettin done wiring up my 95 chevy k2500 with a 93 cummins 12 valve. i took the engine trans and transfer case into the chevy. my question is do i need to connect any wires to the transmission like for the overdrive shift solenoid or anything like that? or will it drive fine if i dont hook up any electrical to it. thanks

The factory dodge PCM is what controls the shift points , torque converter lockup and just about every function of the transmission. What transmission are you trying to install?
If it's a 47rh/re or 48RE it Must have eaither a stand-alone controller or the PCM wired into control the transmission.
DOH....I'm guessing your using a 46RH ?

A direct quote from the factory service manual. It must have some type of controller or PCM to control the transmission!
A variety of sensor inputs are supplied to the engine controller, which operates valve body solenoids. The overdrive control switch is located in the instrument panel. In On position, automatic shifts into fourth gear overdrive will occur. In Off position, the switch overrides electronic control module preventing a shift into fourth gear. Fault codes are employed to help diagnose electronic components that operate overdrive unit and lock-up converter.

i dont know the exact model of the tranny i know its got overdrive though. and it came in the 93 w250. i dont know the crossover number codes on the case or what they convert it to.
i am using the factory pcm so that my engine will have the heated intake and all that good stuff. so what all sensors need to be hooked up to the transmission? it doesnt look like many
and will i need to use the engine speed sensor and other sensors on the motor as well? or do i not need any of the engine sensors to control the transmission

All engine sensors and transmission sensors must be hooked up. I'm not very familiar with the 46RH/518 transmissions. There should be a harness coming out of the pan or case to control valve body functions! You might PM member RSWORDS. He's very familiar with these trucks and there transmissions!

when ever i talk with my transmission guy he says that dodge transmissions are controlled by timing and governor pressure effects timing... adjust the TV cable increase pressure and increase how long it stays in that gear. to my knowledge theres one solenoid and it's for torque convertor lock-up and even then i think it only goes by tps signal... atleast thats the way it is with the parents 47RE. i eliminated the tps b/c it kept going out and for $260+ we werent going to keep replacing it. there's some thread about installing a potentiometer in place of the tps... worked great for us; you can still select OD on/off; although once your torque convertor is locked you do lose the kickdown into passing gear... put your foot to the floor and just TAP the brake pedal... it'll unlock the convertor and let you get the R's you need... i'm just saying this is how our truck works... mysterync is a very knowledgable person and well respected member of DB so i'd take his word before mine and RSWORDS is the bobby mayes of first gens; he can tell you just about everything about the first gen

The throttle valve plays a big part in the operation of the transmission.
And tower of power is correct, There's alot that can be modified and remove electronic componets. However, if your trying to have this truck exactly like it would have been if cummins a chevy went together, these componets must be working correctly.
Below are some diagrams of the electrical systems of the transmission!
