Default Killer Dowel Pin...

Anyone tried the kit from Geno's where you drill and tap the side of the case to hold the KDP in place? I like the look of it better than pulling all sorts of stuff off the front of the engine... As a gunsmith, drilling and tapping is a lot easier for me than wrestling timing covers and gaskets. Any feedback on the kit? I know there are some other potential loose bolts that really need to be addressed when you tab the KDP, so what are diesel shops getting for this job? I really am a little leery about digging this deep into the engine. Yeah, I know, I can gain a valuable experience by doing it myself, but I worry about the part where you get it all back together and it works as good or better than it did, .

Thanks-

It is really not a difficult job to do yourself. I have no experience with the Geno's kit but I am sure somebody will. If not contact Geno's Garage yourself and see what they have to say about it.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I need to look into it a little more. Talked to the local diesel shop today, when I asked about the KDP, the owner pulled out a busted cover and said, "yeah, it is a problem." He didn't try to sell me on it, but did tell me I need to address it. I guess when the Cummins comes home I need to sort that out. Thanks for the $.02...

I'd just pull the cover and stake the pin.

Agreed by the time your done drilling it n all that other stuff you could have it almost put back together. that kit is only good if the kdp is all the way in still which you can never tell.

Plus wheres all the shavings going as you're drilling and tapping

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Also you need to loctite the housing bolts, mine were barely snug

or the old coat hanger trick there was a wright up somewhere where a guy took a metal coat hanger and basicly made a washer with a little tab to cover the hole. ive used that trick to help everybody i know with thiers ever since. nobody has ever had a problem.
