Because I've messed with FAR too many clutches in my day and if there is one thing I hate, thats taking the transmission out.
I know 5spds dont hold boost, but as far as the fun factor, longevity, and mileage I'll take a slow boosting 5spd over a fun soul-less automatic.

as for how ling they last ... I have ran the 3850 in my truck for the past year with over 500hp to the ground, driven arround town, hooked to some sleds, few boosted launches, many hard WOT runs for testing, and it still has yet to slip
Stay away from single if you want to make any amount of power and have fun with it at the same time. I've gone through 3 single disks in the 3 years I've owned my truck. The ceramic I ran after my rebuild was a grabby bastard and welded at 800 miles. But i'm a little hard on parts. In my book if I spend good money on a part I expect it to last. Singles don't last trust me.

to do the whole thing right with the up graded hyrdo, input shaft, and a DD I think its arround 1800.

I have spent well over 1800 on singles that my truck ate alive. If you want our help you have to listen to us. I have been in your shoes and know how it is. A good double is a hard pill to swallow but that pill is going to save you a lot of heart ache and down time.

Ya I'm sure she wont miss almost two grand missing from the bank account

throw a fully computer controlled torqshift 5100 out of a ford with a 6.0l powerstroke and a suncoast tripple disk converter and youll like an auto
