why does my truck start soooo good? seriously..
 
So what's up with my truck that this 256k mile truck will start in 10* weather without even cycling the grid heater, stone cold, quicker than my 132k mile 7.3 that's been ran all day in 70* weather and had the glows cycled? I cannot believe how disguistingly fast this truck starts. The throttle response on this 12v is so damn crisp and responsive too. The only thing is the cummins puffs whit smoke at startup and sometimes black but it clears up after a few secs

The 7.3 uses a much less effective heating method than a cummins. Also anything with mechanical injection is going to start easier than one with a HEUI injection system. With HEUI the injectors need to see at least 30lbs oil press to fire them.

oh I suppose that makes sense. But even w/out cycling the grids on the cummins this truck starts FAST. Very fast. As in it MIGHT make one revolution before kicking over.

Because it doesn't need to sense oil press. That can be a bad thing though. If a HEUI system looses oil press the truck will shutoff this can be a saving grace from a catastrophic failure.

Oh that is pretty badass.. Man those electronic injectors are SO damn noisy though!!

hahaha smarty. Hey i'll tell you what my 7.3 6spd with just an intake exhaust and disconnected wg would run CIRCLES around this cummins. Mileage is suffering too but I think its due to a bad cat and fuel filter :\

Yeah, but when you are finally done the Cummins will be twice the HP and half the cost of the bombed Ford...:w2:

thats y in cold weather i crank my truck over a few times b4 the grid heater comes on, get some oil going through the system b4 there is load on the mains....

power strokers were always cold blooded, even the older ones

Well honestly, I didn't see it that way before I started researching them but now I completely agree. I can buy injectors, fuel plate, boost elbow, exhaust, intake, and even a bigger turbo for CHEAPER than I was going to pay for some injectors for my 7.3. I'll have 3x the power of a powerstroke for 1/5 the price. Oh and the mileage of these Cummins is supposed to be the best too (though in my psd I got 20mpg city and I'm getting 11mpg city and 19.3mpg highway in my cummins.. think there are some things wrong with it)

Well the thing is, I CANT crank my motor over a few times before allowing the grid to heat up, this truck will literally start right up with no issues on the first attempt.

Timing is a little low. Bump the timing up and starting will become harder and mileage will go up.
