Default Killer Dowel Pin?

So recently I've noticed a new sound from the front cover of my truck. Sounds like a pebble being tossed around inside the front of the engine. The sound does not keep time with the engine and does not pick up speed when you rev the truck up. It is not a steady click, reminds me of a pebble in a clothes dryer. When I listen to it, it's easy to imagine something bouncing around inside the front of my engine.
I bought the truck used so I do not know if it has ever had a KDP kit installed. The front cover does leak oil.
To date, I've replaced the water pump, thermostat, all cooling hoses, the fan clutch, lift pump, rebuilt the transmission, and right now I am in the middle of replacing the head gasket. Seeing as how the front cover is leaking, I thought I might just pull it and see if there was a KDP kit on it.
What say ya'll?

it could also be the bolts that hold the case on they like to fall out make em tight and put red lock tight on them and tight means right before they strip out cummins torque spec isnt enough.
