Seems like the oil pump might be shatting the bed.
Shane, what you are seeing is totally normal. You are seeing pressure straight off the pump. If you were to tie in where the sensor is you won't see the fluctuation. My daughters truck (98 12V) does the same thing. My truck (96) is also the same way.

That's what mine does too Shane, 80-100 on cold start up, 60-75 on the road,20-30 at idle.My guage is connected in the same spot as yours. The minimum pressure is 13psi for these motors i believe.

I had the same issues with my sending unit so i called dodge just to see what they wanted, and it turns out that for a 95, and maybe other year trucks the oil pressure sending unit for the diesel is the same as the gas...who woulda thought?? fortunately for me I still had my 1500 series parts truck with the 5.2 L and i took that sending unit out, put it in my 12 valve and it works great. I still ordered a new genuine one from Cummins, but I just thought that was interesting!

Replaced mine saturday and fixed my pressure gauge problem.

To replace it on a 98 you need a 1-1/16" Oil Pressure Sender Socket (long deepweld) for the new sensor. Advanced Auto carries it. The old one you just break off the plastic part and use a regular 1-1/16" socket.
