Default Killer dowel pin

I have the timing cover off my 12valve to replace the seal and gasket so I'm making a tab to cover the pin my question is is that is the pin sopossed to be able to beat back in the case it has just a tiny bit sticking out and can't get it to go flush is this how it is or do I need to beat it in I'm just afraid to break something if I put the tab in there now it will not be flush

Ya just beat it in with a punch and hammer. Won't hurt anything
