Default looking for recommendations on an AR build

I carry an M4 for a living and am looking to build my first AR, and since there is so many manufacturers of parts, there is obviously going to be ones to stay away from. I just bought a custom engraved Spikes Tactical stripped lower. Now what I am looking for is recommendations on brands i should stay away from and manufacturers to look for. this is for everything from the BCG to the upper reciever to trigger group. Any help is gladly taken

What do you want the AR to do, do you want a clone of a M4 like you are now carrying or want something different?

Want to build the upper (need specific tools for that) or do you want to either buy a complete upper or what?

Lots of ways you can go with a build & it all depends on what you are looking to get out of it..

Bravo Company, and Del-ton are good quality and affordable. Palmetto State Armory has some good reviews and seem to have quality builds. They even have cold hammered 4150 CL barrels now.

Are you looking for a rifle kit? or do you want to buy individual parts and piece it together? Is this gonna be a plinker, home defense, varmint, range toy?

ZombieSoldier, I see your from Colorado....in Loveland you have the very best black rifle store in the front range and one of the better ones in the country...

Jensen Arms Co. 285-E East 29th Street Loveland, CO It's tucked back in the corner of a strip mall, easy to mis unless your really looking for it...but it's well worth the trip...they have everything from full blown AR's (tons of them) to lowers, partially assembled lowers, uppers and all manner of pieces parts...

Plus lots of ammo & other goodies...

They are quality no question about it

I forgot to mention LaRue...

If you saw the opening of Top Shot last night...the LaRue OBR was featured...I've played with them & they are superb...

I've got a 18" LaRue Stealth....

I like spikes striped lowers ,they also have a zombie hunter lower im sure you'll love judging by your sig. I've built on 2 of there lowers the punisher, and the standard multi cal and they are verry good qaulity. On both lowers i used rock river stage 2 triggers nothing special but they work well, on the next one i build i will get a jewl trigger with a novaseke or larue uper with a stainless barrel. Also i like magpul more then vltor because magpul is made in boulder colorado and I like to support local buisness, i see your from colorado also. and the punisher lower has a alexander arms 50beowulf uper so i know they can hold up to anything you can throw at them.

Actually magpul is located in Erie Colorado they just use the Boulder address to **** off the hippies and liberals in Boulder

The gunshop I mentioned above had a masada on display from Magpul before it became public, don't know about now but at one time that was the gunshop the magpul guys used & always had lots of magpul stuff...

I did not know that, i thought it was strange that when I got my UBR stock it said made in boulder, makes sense now. That makes me like that company even more. I'm gona have to check out that shop sounds cool. 5280 armory in arvada, machine gun tours, and colorado specialty sports in the springs are my 3 favorite stores.

ok i will try to answer everything the best i can.
- i wanted similar to my M4. a decent all around shooter, good at everything but not perfect at any one thing

- the lower i got was from a forum member on another forum. it was done in a group buy from spikes tactical, with custom engravings. different then what they offer all together on a normal basis.

- i was thinking of a 11-14 inch barrel. not real short but not too long either.

- a rail system is a must for things i have acquired from the army (nothing stolen just surefires, bi-pods etc)

- gonna do BUIS's as well as a red dot sytem.

- i will have to make a trip up to loveland for sure.

- thinking maybe i will go with a complete upper, but not certain yet. definitely an a4 flattop upper, maybe such as this:
DSA ZM4 Forged 7075T6 A3 AR15 Upper Receiver-D S Arms
