Are you crazy I'm just a beginner! I should probably start out with the 454 Causal and get the hang of that before moving up to the 500.

I'm just looking for what every one has carried that is smaller and liked in my price range. The 1911 seams to draw a big crowd and I like the M&P compact 9mm. Now I just need time to get to try some of them out.

What is the difference between the slide mounted safety and frame mounted besides the obvious. Every pistol I have ever owned was a slide mounted. If I am not mistaken my dads S&W 5906 is a slide mount. I have never noticed a difference. Is there a reason to stay away from slide mounted? I could probably pick up a 5906 for a decent price. I have always like the gun and it has never misfired yet. Would one be worth looking at or should I keep looking?

here is a suggestion, go to a pawn shop or gun shop that sells consinment or used guns and pick up a used glock or S&W M&P

nothing wrong with buying a used pistol, its a great way to save some money and to get a better model. just make sure you inspect it well before purchase.

I agree. I've heard people get very good deals on police issue Glocks that have a lot of wear on the outside from going in and out of holsters, but have relatively few rounds fired through it.

The difference is speed & ease. With the slide safety you need to use the other hand, but with the frame safety your thumb can flick the safety fast & smooth without you having to take your eyes off the threat.

Yea I am going to check them out. I don't care what the outside of the gun looks like as long as it functions properly. The only problem I have with Glocks is I know there a good gun and I have shot a few of them but none of them have ever felt right to me. Its like who ever designed them did it for every body else but me.

Nope, not true at all.....all it is is a personal preference....if that....

I've got a couple pistols that have a slide safety (S&W 5904 & Beretta 92SF) and they works just fine with the strong hand's thumb, just as easy as it does on the 1911's....

The only "good" glock is a G19...and the 21SF...otherwise stay away from 40's they tend to bite the owner if ya ask me...

Yep they feel like a 2x4, I'm no big fan of how they feel, but they serve a purpose...my G19 is seriously abused & I don't shoot it all that good...but it does hit the targets & it does go bang...so it's a beater/abuse pistol...

I was beginning to think I had defective hands which I am sure I do. I have never noticed a difference in slide or frame. The ones I have now are all slide mounted and I don't ever use my other hand on the safety. Just grab a hold and a quick flip from the thumb and the safety is off.

Why do you say this? I have a 3rd gen 22 that I really like a lot.

It's a 40 cal...and I am not a fan of the 40 short and weak at all....

Glock has had lots of problems with the 40's...and they are having lots of problems with the 3rd & 4th generation pistols...not sure exactly what modles/calibers but I think some big name G19 shooters have had major problems with high round counts and the 4th generations...and it seems like some 3rd generations also have 4th gen parts in em....migh have to do with the flex of a pistol mounted light...

have read more than I remember..but since I've got a 2nd generation G19 and don't plan on any more...and will never get a 40 cal glock (or any other 40 cal pistol at that) have not really paid all that much attention...

Hmm. That's interesting. I haven't heard of that. I'll have to do some more research before I buy my next.
