The 1911 has a cult following and is a pistol that requires more than your average gun shop commando wants to devote to it...While it's a excellent pistol by no means is it a handgun a beginner/novice pistl guy should ever get without 1st taking the time to learn it, shoot it & get comfortable with it.

It's designed to be carried with a round int he chamber, hammer cocked back & thumb safety on...many many people feel that carrying a pistol cocked and locked is dangerous...as do so many people think you need to carry a pistol with a empty chamber...

That's not the 1911....

1911 is out of the question anyway. One kid here and one in the oven puts it out of my price range for a long while. I could not agree with you more that what ever I get I could never be to familiar with and more classes could not hurt.

I know where there is a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm compact. The guy is a friend of my dads and owns a gun store. Hes asking $450 for it. I don't know what there worth. If its a good deal I could get him to bring it out and let me shoot it. If its not I wont waste his time.

Go to Discount Guns for Sale - Buds Gun Shop check out his prices for whatever you like...add $25 for shipping and then whatever your FFL charges for a transfer...

$450 for a M&Pc is a good price....I paid $447 for a M&P 9mm and that's after a 10% sale price and $50 military discount.

Thanks. I've checked him out before. He says he'll only ship to some one with a FFL but I only live a couple of hours from there. I know Kentucky and Indiana honor a lot of each others firearm laws and that you can buy a firearm in Indiana and take it back to Kentucky. I am curious if you worked out everything in advance if I could go pick it up strait from him. The guy I know with the store is kind of a pain in the butt and would probably not like it if I bought from someone else and had him do the transfer.

See this is where I have trouble S&W SW9VE 9mm Stainless $289. I can tell you its a 9mm made by Smith & Wesson. I can handle it safely, use it properly, take it apart, clean it, and even make parts to repair it ( I own a machine shop its personal use). I can't tell you if the guns worth owning. It a S&W I know they make good guns for the most part. Or is it just a low end for more shooting targets in the yard and not worth trusting your life too.

The S&W M&P9C you were asking about is valued at about $535 in NRA VGood rated condition. So unless it's real beat up, seems like a good deal to me.

9mm is CHEAP...you can shoot 2x as much as a 45 if not more...learn more, get more trigger time, take a class or 2 with the money saved...

Load the 9mm with 124gr +P Gold Dot Speer LE ammo and it will do anything/everything a 45 will do except cheaper....
Open carry is perfectly legal in Indiana. I hate how nobody can say firearm or weapon without throwing the word concealed in there.

Glad to oblige.....

If you want to debate the merits of open carry vs concealed then by all means feel free to start another thread, otherwise that is way off topic in this thread.

Yea I know open carry is and I do from time to time mostly if I am just stomping around in the woods I live in the middle of nothing. I am wanting to go a head and get a ccw permit for a couple of reasons. 1- I look at it like carrying a tool box with you. You hope you never need it but would rather have it if you do. 2- I own a my own business in manufacturing and have to go out of state to other factories on a regular basis sometimes carrying fair amounts of money. Some of the places you end up are not in the best of neighborhoods. Every state I visit honors Indiana permits. 3-I have family I visit a couple of times a year in Florida. Every state between here and Florida honor Indiana permits.
