looking for help building a AR
#21
Between you, me and the wall.......
I'm not a big fan of the "it's got to be staked properly camp" as I've shot several thousand rounds out of a fully automatic M16 (not even the A1) that had zero staking & never had a single issue related to the gas key...I carried that M16 for 3 years overseas and while it was old and had who knows how many rounds down range it ran like a top....till you put a BFA on it and ran blanks...then I always had problems...
My bushmaster has meh staking...and still runs great & is not loose at all...
Personally I think this is something some arm chair commandos dreamed up somewhere on a range or after a class & said it's got to be a problem....

Thanks for the response guys. I'm Looking to build something like a cqb carbine . Im looking at maybe a small magnification red dot (most shoots will be 100-150yds or less). The optic and ar both need to be able to stand up to abuse so any tips to make it stronger are gladly welcome

eotech's have major problems with recoil viberating/bouncing the contacts loose...some pewople never notice this as they don't shoot much. the new xps line of eotech's have been designed to stop the problem, but it does not always happen & some still have issues.
I sold my eotech (it hadthe problmes & would shut off when shooting) and got a aimpoint micro, the micro is heads and shoulders better than the eotech.

if i'm correct the aimpoint micro has a 4 moa dot which at 200yds is a 8'' blank spot from the dot so accuracy will be somewhat difficult whereas the eotech 'holo' sights are 1 moa mil dots which gives better view to the ranges the op posted. as far as eotech problems, every sight has it's problems now and then. nothing is perfect. aimpoint and eotech users are like ford VS chevy guys. it's best to just try it out first.

Why put a 1moa optic on a 8 moa weapon.... thta size of a dot also has drawbacks when in close quarters...thus the 65moa ring that many people have problems with being fuzzy due to how thier eye works...not to mention, ever have a optic take a dump on you when you are using it...the thing goes black...I have...several times..and it was a eotech...the R1 micro I've got has never had any problems...
Aimpoint micro T1 is much much better of a optic than the EoTech, better built, longer battery life (5 years on time if I remember right) yep it has a 4moa dot...
The eotech is not a bad sight, especially if it's a new xps series...as they are way better than the older biger ones that has 2 batteries in line with the reciever...those have problems and issues...
The Aimpoint has zero problems and issues...they are built like a M1 Abrams tank while the eotech is a M60 patton tank of the optic world....
