One last one....if you have never looked at LaRue...well then get off the camel & take a good hard look at them...

LaRue Tactical

The PredatAR is unreal, the 7.62 version is well supercalafraglistic to say the least...it's so light and easy to get on target you would never believe it's a 7.62....

I've got a LaRue Stealth....mummmmmmmm

Looks like LaRue built AR's also made the latest transformer movie...not to mention the Governor of Texas likes & shoots em....
All very nice Stuff... BUT the gun that I built from the list above has a probably ~4,000rnds through it so far and so far never once had a gun related malfunction... Had some magazine issues but that was solved with a new mag. It's accurate, it gets abused, and I like it. It's not the quality of all the ones you listed but its a good quility gun that will give a lifetime of use with no headaches, I've dropped it, its been rained on in the woods, its gotten mud on it in the woods, its always gone bang and with good pressision and accuracy. Are there better out there, yep... I have a couple that are ALOT nicer and more refined and if I was going to battle I would carry one of those with me. If I treated either of those nice guns like I do my beater I would cry, I'm not made of money and for my money for a gun that will get used as a "truck" gun and get abused, Its perfect.

Nodakspud makes good stuff...that's who made the receiver for my AK...the rest of the pieces parts are all good quality...

Can't speak for the JSE surplus...have no idea who they are...have never seen any in any classes or on the range....who makes the BCG they use...how is the gas key staking...they do offer some middle of the road pieces parts...along with the total **** air soft UTG crap...

I'd not ever put the DMS-1 on a 4 wheeler, it just can't take that kind of abuse....

You are correct about pricing, what does the OP want to spend, what's the budget...build one and save a couple hundred bucks & hope it works, or get a ready made one for a few more bucks from a known manufacturer that's guaranteed to work with a warranty behind it...

Or go to gunbroker or other private sales...and/or buy a used one....heck I've got a ban period Rock River carbine or a armalite carbine both with a low round count I'd sell the OP if that's the way he wants to go...

Nodak makes GREAT parts. I sent two off for some custom engraving and the guy (does lots of lowers) said they were two of the best finished recievers he has ever seen. You reminded me that I need to order another AK reciever, I boogered up my last... don't ask...

JSE build uppers from parts bins, you can get a couple different set-ups but always good parts. My JSE upper is YHM reciever and BCG, and a Bull Dog Barrel. Bull dog makes barrels and barrel blanks for alot of companys. Gas key is stacked from the side like it should be.

Like I said, for a budget upper I have not found anything to beat it yet. I am very satisfied with this upper for the price I paid, very satisfied.

Since I don't know anything 1st hand (or even 2nd or 4th) about the JSE I just can't comment...and will have to take you at your word....

Only thing I can say, that gas key picture does not look properly staked to me...it's hard telling how deep & uniform the indents are from the picture & I could be totally wrong..

This thread shows lots of pictures..

The 7.62.39 cartridge in a AR platform has been riddled with functioning problems, they just do not feed very well in the AR....if ya want something in that caliber go with something in the AK platform...

For that price range you will need to either build something like I put up in my post or buy a used gun. Yuo wont get the super quality ready for the battle AR for that price... You can get a good gun, but not the best.
