Rock River makes great guns as well.
Most of the big names are fine. The beauty of the AR platform is the modularity (is that a word) of being able to piece together uppers, lowers, triggers, etc from various manufacturers to build a truly custom rifle.
(soapbox) I won't own a rifle that poops where it eats regardless of the manufacturer (off soapbox) but it's hard to argue with their accuracy. Give me a gas piston conversion, AK, or AK variant "hybrid" any day.
Les Baer is very $proud$ $of$ $his$ $work$. Good stuff, though.

Well, technically speaking, no...a true "assault rifle" as defined by Mil spec, NATO, STANAG, etc standards is select fire, and since those types are against the law for most U.S. citizens to own, we have to settle for "military platform" semi automatic carbines, rifles, etc.
But, (oh god politics again) the general public will believe anything, so if it's black, OD green, desert camo, or any variation of the above...it's an assault weapon.
The Ruger 10/22 is on the banned list...SA with high capacity (>10) magazines....FYI

True, but how many people who own an AR platform firearm can truly knock down pop cans outside 100 yards with iron sights?
When all that is left is crappy ammo and the nearest cleaning kit is 200 rounds away...well, thank goodness for the bolt forward lever and enjoy your single shot.
Put a gas piston kit on an AR platform and have the best of both worlds.

Once you have a complete rifle, you really only need to buy additional uppers for more versatility. Of course, if you can afford it, complete AR's are always better. Make sure that you get the 2 stage trigger form Rock River Arms; It makes all the difference in the world!
I have a 16" HB shorty with a chrome lined barrell and a Rock River Arms 18" Real HB Wilson barrel on my mini sniper.
