Default older 7.3 maintenance

I just bought a 1989 F250 with 7.3 and aftermarket turbo. It has 150K. How do i keep it healthy? This is my first diesel.

Change oil ( I personally run Royal Purple 15/40 Synthetic ) .. Make sure you keep your Coolant good and DCA's in spec ( you will need a HD coolant checker strip to see if your DCA's are ok) .. Do not use just regular coolant , it will cause Cavitation in Cylinder walls and could and will eat the engine from the inside.. ( Cavitation is like the Ball peeen hammer on the inside of the coolant passages, eventually it will blow through the cyl. walls and you will have to sleve the engine block ).. $$$$

These engines love to be reved up, they make power above 2K+ ... I personally have 3.55 gears and 35" tires, 4 spd.. i run mine to the govenor and then shift...

I also run ATF in the fuel, and it returns with 17.5 city / 20 freeway @ 65 mph .. 21/2200 rpm's ..

Any Questions Pm
