I recently purchased a 2001 7.3 Ford Powerstroke that had a bad block I was wondering if I would be able to put a 92 7.3 IDI into where the 7.3 powerstroke was

 

Go with a 12V Cumins .. they even have a swap kit for them .. a IDI would be going backwards all together ..

 

That means I would have to shell out money that I don't have just to have a moving vehicle

 

The 92s body and frame are shot but the motor is good and the 01s body is good but the motor is shot I was needing to know if I could combine the two and have a running vehicle

 

If you have to get the vehicle smog tested you would be wasting your time. The older IDI would never live up the standards expected of the 01.

All that aside, it could be done but you would have a bunch of electric gizmos not happy with you. The PSD also has a drive by wire system you would need to replace with a regular throttle cable assembly. I'm not sure if the newer transmission would work with it. It should bolt to it, but working properly is another story.

 

PITA ..... and the Cummins would pass En=mmisions with a Cat in the exhaust ..
