Default 04 7.3 Problems

A buddies Ford is acting up is acting up running sluggish and smoking it up till the turbo kicks in.

I told him to change air and fuel filter, but being a CTD owner I don't know what else it can be

Moved thread to Ford section for better exposure.

BTW, are you sure it's an '04. I thought '03 was the last year.

Black to white when the turbo kicks in

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

The guy who own's wouldn't know unless he look at the book for it and I called and had him check it

OK the dodge guys are voting it's a 6. o no with a VGT stuck open, which would cause to spool up slow and cause black smoke till the turbo spools up

Thanks Guys

Its definately a 6.0 if it is an 04 -- 03 was the last year of the 7.3 and it was some 7.3's and mostly 6.0's

Default Well

Black to white wouldnt be just one problem. If its sluggish and is puffing black off the start its not boosting enough which could be turbo, egr system etc. If its puffing white smoke and it being a 6.0 its about 99.999999999% EGR cooler.
