Opinion On Motor Oils
#51
Not one of them I took as an attack, only a guy continuing a myth that if he would dig a little deeper then a YouTube video could see its not needed, recommended or required.

this thread has taken a drastic turn for the worst, dude was just asking for an opinion on what motor oil he should run, your HEUI systems aren't that complex where the oil needs to be changed every 3k miles, have you no clue on how oil is tested/designed? Sure the HEUI system creates added strain on the oil but you're dumping your money down the drain changing it every 3k, there's alot more engines out there that are using the HEUI injection system and run alot longer than 3k between oil change intervals, I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but it's getting a little ridiculous guys, your system is not special, it's different, but does not need the kind of treatment you are giving it, synthetic holds up better to pressure it's a simple fact of chemistry dino oil molecules are all different lengths making it more susceptible to break down due to the HEUI's high oil pressure injection system, synthetic is better due to the fact that all the molecules that make up the oil are of the same length therefore they're stronger and more durable under high pressure, I truly believe that you'd be perfectly safe running a synthetic 10-15k miles in an HEUI injected diesel and dino oil anywhere from 5k to 7.5k miles without any problems

what about filtration you guys think high bypass is good if I try and go to 10 K on my syn?
anyone here doing it? with any real mileage on the syn?

I will say something about the wiring and plumbing on powerstrokes ford could have simplified it the area under our hoods is a jumbled up mess no matter what you do

The HEUI system is extremely hard on oils and breaks down the anti foam additives. If your just using it for a grocery getter, you might not notice it, but if you use it as a truck you will.
Change your oil every 3-5k and you will have no issues.

agreed, I'm still a firm believer in synthetic and think you'd be just fine going 10k, if you hear your injectors start to clatter more or your mpg goes down then by all means change it, HEUI is harder on oil than my common rail I'll give you that, but that's about it, I will not sit here and say you have to change the oil every 3k miles on a diesel engine ever because that negates one of the huge "benefits" to a diesel engine which is longer service intervals
