Default Opinion On Motor Oils

I just wanted to here some opinions on the diesel motor oils out there. been a real loyal delo guy but that's because of its availability. Really looking hard at the Amsoil synthetic, don't think i'd go 15 to 25K without dumping my oil, I was thinking maybe going 10K possibly changing that oil filter every 5K, but I wanted to see if anyone else with a 99-03 7.3 has already converted to synthetic. Has it been a benefit to your rig. I know synthetics cost more but diesel pickups cost more I want whats in the best interest of my rig.

Welcome to the site. Delo is a good dino oil. Going 7500 - 10k with it isn't out of the realm of things either, depending on how you use the truck.
Synthetics do offer advantages. Some are small but can benefit over the long haul.
They do cost more. Some care and some don't. To make the dollar work for you, you can sure use them for longer periods of time. Ours will run 15k no problem, even longer depending on the use. Many OA's to back this up. Your filter change at 5 or 7500 is still required unless using the amsoil filter.
Good luck

I run amsoil because i believe it to be the best, I think the quality control on it is second to none, you know what you're getting every time and that means alot to me, not to mention it is still affordable when you crunch the numbers compared to dino oil

I like the Schaeffer my self. Can't afford Amsoil which is Excellent. I guess it is a matter of what you can and can't afford. In my own opinion (just mine don't care if people think I am wrong) I Change my oil (Delo or Mobil) every 3k miles That includes the oil in the high pressure oil system, I have a procedure to change that as-well. So for me to go to a synthetic is not cost effective right now (Reason being I do not make enough money). If I had the extra cash I would go to a synthetic. I will still change every 3k, unless I see good oil quality. Then I might. Might consider the extra 2k, sense my truck only sees the highway, I treat my 1999 f-250 injectors right! you have got to have clean oil in HPOS. So figure what you can afford and look at how sever your use is.

Delo... 8.50 a gallon at Wal-mart right now for the next 6-7 weeks...

Change your oil every 3-5k, no more... You have a completly different oil system then any other motor on the road. DO NOT RUN EXTENDED DRAIN INTERVEALS... Period.

So with that, there is no benifit to paying 18 bucks a gallon for something your going to dump out in 3-5k...

i agree....i can here the difference in the way my engine sounds when the oil gets 3-4K miles on it. usually change at 4-5K it sounds so much quieter and happier when it's changed.
