Hey, Yes I am new to this site and this is my first post.I got a problem....I was on my way home from work and was stoppes ad a red light and my truck starts making a odd sound from the motor. As I pressed the throttel to pull out it ran as if it were running on 6 or 7 cyl.
So after stopping to get a new fuel filter and installing it when I got home theere was no change. It will start and idel fine but " misses " ad the throted is pushed. The motor makes a clicking sound and it shudders....I'm lost. Sorry for my 1st post to be a long question but I have got to get it fixed.......... Thanks Scott


Update....It is blowing the fuel pump fuse as fast as you put a new one in.......????????????? Bad pump????

 

Not too sure on this one. Welcome to the site and Im sure someone more knowledgeable on that topic will chime in. There are some very helpful people here!

 

Check the turbo bolts, they are notorious for coming loose. Inspect the entire turbo.

And do you have the original CPM?

If the turbo is tight and OK, go to your local dealer and get a new CPM for free. Make sure it is the new model with the gold pins, not the older tinned pins.

Do a search on the CPM and find a thread with the correct patc numbers.

This is a good place to start, again check the entire turbo. Then do the CPM, there is a TSB for all older 7.3L rigs, it may be a simple free part as your problem.

Cam Position Sensor Recall 07S57:
1997 through 2003 model year Ford trucks and vans are being recalled for replacement on the camshaft position sensor (CMP). Affected parts are the old black sensor with the gold-colored retainer. The CMP will be inspected and replaced, if applicable, with the new gray sensor with silver retainer (P/N F7TZ-12K073-B). If the trcuk already has the gray sensor, it will be released with no repair. If you have already paid to have the gray sensor installed (either warranty deductable or out of warranty), reimbursment is available. Instructions for reimbursment will be included with the recall letter. If you had the CMP replace recently and the old black sensor was installed, you MAY be eligable for reimbursement. Due to the high volume of affected vehicles, new sensor may not be in stock. I advise you call the dealership before going in.

Sounds like you need to check the fuel system. If the fuel pump fuse is blowing it means the pump is bad or working really hard. Might be something caught in the pick up tube or someone may have added a pre pump filter at some point.

The missing sounds like a Under Valve Cover harness issue. They like to work loose over time and thats what you get, a dead miss. Pull the valve covers and check to make sure they are 100% seated in the gasket.

 

Check and change the CPM.

 

CPS will not cause a studder. It will cause a no start issue, and a random dieing issue, but not a miss...

Its not the CPS.

 

fuel system is were i would start. check pressure, the cps won't cause the fuse to blow for the pump, look at harness to pump, connectors, wiring, etc. the pump may just be bad. does the pump sound healthy or does it sound different or like its struggling?
