Default 2002 Brakes

I have to do my brakes on my truck. Now should I replace my rotors with the cross drilled slotted ones. Are they really worth the extra money. Please let me know what yall think.

i'm not a fan of cross drilled rotors on daily driven vehicles. cross drilled rotors have a tendancy to develop small cracks between the holes. they do let your brakes run a little cooler but there is also less metal than a full rotor. the only real benefit to cross drilled rotors is the reduction in brake fade. if your not experiencing any brake fade then save your money and use stock parts. if you are experiencing fade then your best bet is to either find a pair of slotted rotors or buy some cryogenically treated rotors. slotted rotors will let your brakes run cooler and reduce brake fade by quite a bit.

On a superduty its not going to benefit you enough to do it.

Ok yall well rotors were able to be saved just had them turned saved a few bucks that way. Never done that before so I guess we will see if it was a good idea or not.

Its not uncommon to turn rotors on a sd every 30,00 or so. I have seen even less.

I just never done it Jon, and I was feeling wierd about it. But I guess I will see how it works.

have been done 3 times. Still have good thickness. SD's can just develop a shake after awhile. I have heard of rotors on a SD being turned 7 times before being replaced. If you are easy on them and know how to run a brake lathe like I can and only run about 2-3 thousandths they will last many many brake jobs.

well needless to say my rotors were saveable but next time i am getting new ones.

If you got the cash and feel that strong about not turning them buy new ones. Post the old ones for sale cheap if they only have been turned once. Hell PM me... Sixpack

My Buddies 02' Has Been Eating Brakes Like Crazy, Granted He's On 35's - We Finally Rebuilt His Calipers and Beefed Up His Setup With New Cross Drilled Meaty Rotors. The Quality of Braking Did Not Change Too Much - But It Sure Pro Longed The Brake Life By At Least Triple The Life of The Old Setup.
