Rebuilt my 7.3 .... machine work is done bottom end is assembled except for the camshaft my camshaft was pretty chewed up big chunks out of a couple lobes from a piece of piston skirt taking rollers off a couple lifters and exc... talked to more than a couple ford dealerships just to be sure but i was told the 7.3 cam was no longer on backorder but was discontinued? is my only option to locate a good used cam? Called Gearhead a couple days ago and they were better than a month out already on regrinds if i had a good core to send which i don't. Everything else on this rebuild is new other than connecting rods and crank i am not wanting to put someone elses junk in my rebuilt motor PLEASE SOMEONE !!

 

Well Wide Open Performance (WOP) did make them new on a performance grind but they were just sold so who knows. I think I can still get them thru IH but havent ever had the need to check. Another option would be to do a regrind on yours to a performance spec and get longer push rods to accommodate that. Its what we do when we build 466's for sled pull tractors

 

Thanks for the info. I checked with local IH dealer they were UNHELPFUL but will prolly check with another ih dealer that has better customer service. swapped in a different running 7.3 to get the truck back on the road. Gonna build my machined engine with different parts now to get more power. will probly have a cam ground now that i have the time to build it
