Default 2003 7.3 liter Turbodiesel

I"M considering purchasing an 03 F350 with 200K miles. The truck is in amazing shape, but I do not know much about these trucks. I currenlty have an 2001 duramax. Injectors have been replaced and fuel injection pump has been replaced. My only weak link is the trans in the truck with almost 250K miles on her. She also needs tires so for another 2K I can keep her or get an amazing F350 7.3liter ford. To be honest, I had an 02 F250 gas and it was my favorite truck....so the 03 i'm kind of liking

What issues do these trucks have? & what should I look for when I purchase one of these trucks?

1- Injectors/fuel pump or fuel injection pump? Are they fairly easy to replace?

2- Transmissions? Are they fariliy reliable? Are they as freaking expensive as the Allisons to rebuild? Some guys @ work had told me that the transmissions in these trucks are the "weak link"? Is that true?

3- What type of problems are prone to these trucks that have 200K on them?

4- What kind of mileage can one expect from a 7.3 in good shape?

Thanks for the help!

Compared to a Duramax, there is NOTHING hard about working on the 7.3. Injectors/HPOP simple as pie.

The 4R100 is definitely the weakest part of the truck. they CAN get just as expensive as a Allison when it comes to building them. but honestly if your not putting down 500 RWHP, there is no need to go extreme... A good converter, valvebody, and basic rebuild and your set. Also good tuning on your tuners part.

200K your looking at injectors if they havent already been done, very costly, but DIY and it helps a **** ton on cost.

Up pipe leaks. Most likely the firewall is full of soot from the donuts in the up pipes to turbo. I replaced the stock **** with a one piece unit from DI... very nice piece in deed...

If turbo is stock, expect it to start fluttering. This can be fixed by installing a wicked wheel, or just do the smart thing and get the ball bearing GTP38R... While turbo is out, you will probably want to gut/rebuild the EBPV pedestal... It tends to leak oil and could get stuck shut.

if your tuned good expect 15+ MPG city and definitely 20 highway....
