Default 7.3 idles odd

The truck is an 02 ford f 350 ext cam xlt lariot. when we first bought the truck it idealed right in the winter. my truck ideals at 700rpm rather then 500rpm like it should. In the winter after i unplug and start it would it would ideal up1100rpm and i would tap on the brake and it would go down to 500rpm. know it will not do that.Today it idealed at 700rpm in the morning and stayed that way all day. If you have any times plese right back. this is my brothers user name.POWER STROKE forever

Well first of all, there's no "a" in "idle". Idle speed for those trucks should be right about 600- 650, but ive seen as high as 670ish. Maybe an issue with the Auxiliary Idle Controller (AIC). How cold is it in your neck of the woods? Daytime temps? Sounds normal if you have cold daytime temps. This is supposed to keep the temp up in the engine so that it doesnt run too cool. Diesels are cold blooded engines. They need heat to run effeciently.

They idle up on cold starts. Normal...

My truck has never idled at 500rpms.. More in the 650 range... I don't see an issue here. If it's a steady idle and not rolling or stumbling, your fine...

The truck came like that from the factory. Your sapost to tap the brake when it idels more then 500rpm. some times it has ideled 1000rpm and i can not get it back down to 500rpm because taping the brake does not work any more.Do you know any one with a 02 power stroke you can ask my question to

its gonna idle high now that its getting colder and when you start it in the morning or whatnot. also will make a whoosh sound cuz of the exhaust backpressure valve closing to aid in faster warm up...after you tap the brake the ebv should open and your idle will come down. my truck idle around 500, but i know other guys 7.3's idle around 650 to 700. like 95powersmoker said...normal and i see no issues Also...im from northeast indiana..what part you located in?
