Default 95 powerstroke wants to die

hey guys, im new to this forum and cant wait for some help!! i bought this truck 6 months ago and everything ran great. truck barely blew any smoke and now i notice more white smoke at start up and black smoke shifting through gears. keep in mind it has 316k miles. now at start up it has a very rough idle until i give it some throttle, then it goes away. sometimes this even happens when sitting at a stop light.. ive been told injectors, and some say HPOP.. just recently found a exhaust leak on driver side manifold which i dont think this would effect an idle.

just a few mods....down pipe, K&N intake, straight exhaust, superchip

this truck also has a manual transmission and seems to whined in some gears, any ideas as well?

any advice would be great!

First off

Do you have a check engine light one? If so have you had it checked out to see what the codes are? Any exhaust leak before the turbo can hurt performance and make the engine run crappy, but I don't think that's the case here. If your tranny is whining, its getting close to rebuild time. And I personally would ditch the K&N intake for anything else. K&Ns let in too much fine dirt and dust. In a city/track setting they're fine but if you're out in the country or often working in dirty conditions, get something else. Just me 2 cents here.

I change the oil religiously, every 3000miles and fuel filter every 3 oil changes or so. Thanks for your reply!

cam positioning sensor maybe?? heard of this on 99-03 PSD's but you'd think it would give you a check engine light if that were the problem. just a thought
