Default transmission wont go into gear...

Hi everyone,

97 powerstroke 4x4. I put a dominator 66 turbo in, bolts on the collector were rusted and frozen, then i rounded em off. Ok so I had to drop the trans and t case to get the rusted and frozen up pipe bolts off. Longs process but turbo is in finally. Truck is back together, go everything back in.... Ran fine befor i took it apart..

NOW my e4od wont go into gear and my OD light is blinking...... Im hoping its a dirty electrical connection, im gonna go this morning and and clean em all up real good i hope thats it. I never took the torque converter off, did drain it though and puta quart and a half back in befor I put the tranny back in.. Also dropped the pan and put new filter in. The tranny will not go into any gear.... also i have to start the engine by jumping the solenoid at the moment.. Changing solenoid today also.. After that i guess it may be the ignition switch. anyone have any ideas??

Ive ready bout a PCM sensor, im shooting in the dark now, just changin parts.

Anyone have any ideas??

x3 Check the fluid level first and not to doubt you but of course running in park then check the fluid level. If the fluid level is ok then chek all of your electical connections to the trans make sure nothing is unplugged and that none of the wires that go above the bell housing got pinched between the trans and the block. And as for the no crank issue check for power on the small gauge wire that is by its self with the 90deg boot like a 12ga wire if i remember correctly this wire should have 12v with the key in the crank position only. If you have power then it is the solenoid. try those things see if they help

Ok cleaned all connections, good heavy shot of electrical cleanerr stuff from auto parts store. Got her to go into gear... Drove to gas stationand back.

Ok torque converter is acting wierd, takes a long time to shift into gear and its acting erratic. On the way to the as station it shifted through the gears, though it was slow to shift. On the way back i was stuck in first.. Ive been reading about a transmission range sensor. Its on drive side of tranny right over linkage i think. Ive got a code p0708. Im thinking that may be causing the no start.. I think te ecu thinks im not in park maybe.. Im not sure.

Im very confused, electrical is like evil voodoo magic to me. I got a volt meter though and im not scared to poke around. Anyone hve any ideas?

He's right about checking the wire on the solenoid. No point taking the buck shot approach and hoping you hit something. That gets expensive fast. When you did the filter, did it seat properly? Secondly, is your shift linkage hooked up and adjusted properly? Good luck.

Blkjack I have no idea what wire your talking about could ya guide me in some more?

yes the filter is seated properly, ive done alot of these. The linkage is working correctly. will a failed transmission range sensor cause a no start? Ive got nothing at the starter, no click no nothing.

The #8 15 amp fuseinside the cab has voltage at key turn. Im thinkin bout just changing the trans range sensor.

Yes the trans range sensor or aka PRNDL (pronounced prindle) switch could very well cause a no crank situation. This switch tell the starter soleniod whether the vehicle is in park or nuetral to start or not. So if it got out of adustment then there will be a no crank situation like you are experiencing. And as for the likage not working what is it or is it not doing properly? if it too is not in right that will not allow the PRNDL switch to allign properly and therefore not crank. And again all of the wiring harness connectors are plugged in correctly ? And another thing to check have seen this before as well if any of the pins have gotten pushed over so that they are not making proper contact just some thoughts I am trying to run through different scenarios for this situation. And if you had the trans out i know you said that you did not take the TC out but sometimes they can slip out of the splines just alittle and not be engaged on the shaft properly but still be able to be bolted back up no problem. Like i said just different things im trying to think of for possible solutions for your case here. hope some of this helps.

You missed some wire harness... there is one on the passenger side as well. They are prone to corrosion, make sure they are all clean and fully seated.
