blowing fuses
on my 06 6.0 ive got a western hauler rack on it with 4 bright *** led lights. it keeps blowing the 20amp fuse in the fuse box under the hood when i hook any trailer up to it an sometimes it blows out on its own at random times i have no idea why so help me out guys thanks
Don't LEDs need a relay of some sort because of the power they draw? It sounds like the combination of the LED rack lights and a trailer are over loading the 20A fuse. Obviously check the grounds for the rack installation first, you may need to sand some paint off and make a bare metal connection.
I had a trailer once and of the 5 of us that hooked up to it, the lights only worked right on 2 trucks, two of those three were Super Duties. If it was plugged into the same port on that 6.4 then you're about to be good friends with a multimeter. Sorry, I'm not much help on electrical issues.
I don't remember if they were LEDs or what, but when these bright lights first came out, if you plugged a bulb into your blinker socket and it hit really fast you needed to add a relay or something to get the synch back. This was back in the 90s and I have drank HEAVILY since then.
Karl, you are correct. You couldn't just directly plug in the LED bulb into the standard socket, needed some sort of circuitry to make it work right. Not sure this is the case here though.
